Analia Saban Argentinian, b. 1980
Overview
“I want to understand how things are made, and then unmake them.” - Analia Saban
Analia Saban (b. 1980) is an Argentine‑born, Los Angeles–based conceptual artist known for pushing the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and technology. Her work often treats various materials such as paint, canvas, wood, concrete, even circuitry, as subjects in themselves, dissecting and reconfiguring them to explore how artworks are constructed and how they behave over time. Drawing on methods that include unweaving canvases, laser‑burning surfaces, and weaving paint through thread, Saban merges scientific curiosity with art‑historical reflection. She earned her BFA from Loyola University New Orleans and her MFA from UCLA, where she studied under John Baldessari, and later served as an Artist in Residence at the Getty Research Institute.
