Francine Matarazzo American

Overview
“These are visuals that hold a history for me. They are my memory makers - some real, some invented - with each piece speaking to the buried treasure of my interior life.” -Francine Matarazzo
Francine Matarazzo is a Los Angeles–based abstract artist whose richly textured paintings and works on paper are deeply informed by her extensive travels through the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. Drawing on memories from time spent in Iran, Tunisia, Morocco, and beyond, her art weaves together fragments of personal history into layered compositions that evoke both place and emotion. Matarazzo studied fine arts at Emmanuel College and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, with additional graduate work at UCLA. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally since the 1980s, including solo shows at College of the Canyons Art Gallery and Audis Husar Fine Art. Through her practice, she creates what she calls “visual poetry,” bridging memory and material in a tactile, expressive language.
