Raphaëlle Goethals Belgian
"With its immobile, bordered presence, painting asks us for time, humility, patience and reflection." -Raphaëlle Goethals
Raphaëlle Goethals is a Belgian-born, New Mexico-based painter known for her luminous, meditative abstractions created with encaustic wax and mineral pigments. After studying at Atelier Le 75 in Brussels and the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, she developed a distinctive visual language rooted in layering, erasure, and the subtle interplay of light and texture. Her work explores memory, nature, and the evolution of consciousness, often incorporating elemental forms like grids, circles, and gestural marks. Goethals' paintings have been exhibited widely and are held in major public and private collections, including the U.S. Department of State's Art in Embassies program. She continues to live and work in New Mexico, where the vast landscape and quality of light deeply inform her practice.
