Robert Stivers American, b. 1953
"I discover more about my work when I hear other people's responses, and maybe I discover more about the person, and maybe I discover a lot about me." -Robert Stivers
Robert Stivers (b. 1953) is an American fine-art photographer celebrated for his haunting, dreamlike black-and-white images. Originally trained as a dancer, Stivers transitioned to photography after a back injury, bringing a sense of movement and theatricality to his visual work. His distinctive darkroom techniques—soft focus, vignetting, and motion blur—evoke fragmented memories and emotional depth. Stivers’ photographs have been exhibited internationally and are held in major museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Getty Center. He lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he continues to explore the poetic and mysterious through his lens.
