Robert Kelly American, b. 1956
"We sleep in language if language does not come to wake us up with its strangeness." -Robert Kelly
Robert Kelly (b. 1956) is a contemporary American artist known for his richly layered, collaged geometric abstractions. Drawing inspiration from modernist movements such as De Stijl and Bauhaus, Kelly creates works that explore duality, structure, and the interplay of form and texture. He often incorporates vintage ephemera and printed materials collected during his extensive travels, embedding them into compositions that evoke both historical resonance and modern clarity. He studied at Harvard University and now lives and works in New York City. His work is held in major public and private collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the New Mexico Museum of Art.
