David Hockney English, b. 1937

Overview
"What an artist is trying to do for people is bring them closer to something, because of course art is about sharing." -David Hockney

David Hockney (b. 1937) is one of the most influential British artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. A leading figure in the Pop Art movement, Hockney is celebrated for his vibrant paintings, innovative photo collages, and pioneering use of digital media. His work often explores themes of personal identity, perception, and the passage of time, with recurring motifs such as swimming pools, portraits, and landscapes.

After studying at the Royal College of Art in London, Hockney moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s, where the light and lifestyle of Southern California deeply influenced his aesthetic. Over the decades, he has continued to experiment across mediums—from stage design to iPad drawings—while maintaining a distinctive visual language rooted in color, clarity, and emotional resonance.
